Currency
The
Euro(EUR) is now the official currency of
Spain. Spain’s prior currency, the
Spanish Peseta, has now been phased out
as legal tender and is no longer accepted.
Credit
Cards
MasterCard,
Visa and Eurocheque cards are widely accepted
throughout Spain. All establishment that
accept credit cards show the VISA or Mastercard
logo in their windows.
Traveller's
cheques
Travelers
checks are accepted in all major cities
and tourist areas, except in some very small
establishments. To avoid additional exchange
rate charges, it is best to take Euro travelers
checks to Spain.
Currency
Regulations
The
import and export of local currency is unlimited,
but the export of amounts exceeding EUR6010
(in any currency) per person per journey
must be declared. The export of cash notes
and bearers - cheques, in any currency,
exceeding EUR3050 per person per journey
must also be declared.
