Currency
Import/Export Restrictions:
The
import and export of local currency is limited
to SIT300,000 or up to the equivalent of
DM3,000.
The
import and export of foreign currencies
is free. However, a declaration is required
for amounts exceeding SIT2,200,000 or equivalent.
Residents require prior approval for the
export of amounts exceeding DM3,000 or equivalent.

Currency
Exchange:
It
is relatively easy to exchange foreign currency
into Tolars within Slovenia, however, it
is advisable to exchange surplus amounts
to the currency of your choice before leaving
Slovenia, as it is not generally exchangeable
elsewhere. Foreign currencies can be exchanged
at banks and some hotels, supermarkets,
petrol stations, tourist agencies and exchange
bureaux. Travellers cheques are widely accepted
but to avoid additional exchange rate charges,
travellers are advised to take travellers
cheques in Euros, US Dollars or Pounds Sterling.
Credit
Cards:
American
Express, Diners, EuroCard, MasterCard and
Visa are accepted at upmarket establishments;
elsewhere cash is preferred. Credit cards
can be used to get cash advances from banks.
Banks:
The
banking hours in Slovenia are generally
Monday to Friday 8:30am-12:30pm and 2pm-5pm.
They are also open Saturday 8:30-11:am or
12pm.
