Currency
The
Euro (EUR) is now the official currency
of Greece. Greece's prior currency, the
Drachma, has now been phased out as legal
tender and is no longer accepted.
Credit
Cards
Credit
cards are accepted in most shops and hotels
this will be indicated by a sticker in the
front window. Most major credit cards are
accepted but check with your bank before
you leave to find out if it will be accepted
in Greece.
Traveller's
cheques
Euro
travelers cheques are widely accepted everywhere
and can be cashed in all major hotels and
banks on production of a passport. It is
advisable to take Euro travelers Cheques
and Euro notes.
Currency
restrictions
You
must declare amounts exceeding EUR10,000
and for the export of currency and cheques
in excess of EUR2,000. Visitors are advised
to keep exchange receipts.
